This statement applies to the Skylark Skylights (Derby) website. We want as many people as possible to be able to read it, find what they need and ask for a survey, whatever device or assistive technology they use. This statement was prepared on 25 October 2026 and will be updated when the site changes.
Our standard
What we are aiming for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. In practice, we try to build pages that can be used with a keyboard alone, read with a screen reader and zoomed without losing content. Text is set to contrast well with its background, headings follow a logical order, links say where they go, and images carry descriptions where they add meaning.
We test pages on phones and desktops, and we check the survey form so that each field has a label and errors are described in words. We have not yet had the site independently audited. We therefore describe our position as an effort to meet WCAG 2.1 AA, and not as a confirmed pass.
Using the site
Ways to adjust the site to suit you
You do not need our permission to change how you read the site. Most browsers and devices let you do the following.
- Increase text size or zoom the page, which the layout is built to handle
- Change colours or use a high-contrast or dark mode
- Use a screen reader or voice control
- Navigate by keyboard with Tab and Enter
The AbilityNet website has free advice on adapting your device, and GOV.UK has information on accessibility and the law.
Known gaps
Where the site falls short today
We know of some areas that may not yet meet the standard. We list them so you know what to expect, and we are working on them.
Gaps we are working on
- Some photographs
- alt text may be brief
- Embedded content
- the survey form is provided by a third party and may not meet the same standard
- Long guides
- some tables may be tight on small screens
Other formats
Asking for information another way
If you find a page hard to use, or you need information from this site in a different format, such as large print, plain text or audio, tell us. Email info@skylarkskylightsderby.co.uk or WhatsApp 07880 284133, naming the page you mean and what format you need.
We aim to reply within 5 working days and to provide the information in the format you ask for, or in the nearest practical alternative. Survey requests can also be made by WhatsApp or email if the form is difficult for you, and we will take the details from your message instead.
There are no public premises, so help is by message, not at an office. Where a survey visit is booked, tell us about any access or communication needs and we will plan around them.
Reporting
Reporting a problem or making a complaint
If you find something that is hard to use, please tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, the device and browser, and any assistive technology you use. Send it to info@skylarkskylightsderby.co.uk or on WhatsApp on 07880 284133. We aim to acknowledge within 2 working days and to reply with what we can do within 10 working days.
If you are not happy with our response, you can follow our complaints procedure. In the UK, the Equality and Human Rights Commission is responsible for enforcing the accessibility regulations that apply to public sector bodies, and you can find advice on your rights at GOV.UK. If you live in Northern Ireland, the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland has its own role.
Keeping up
How we keep improving
Accessibility is part of how we build and edit pages, not a one-off job. When we add a new page, guide or form, we check headings, link text, image descriptions, colour contrast and keyboard use before it goes live. We also use the reports we receive to find and fix problems quickly.
Our privacy policy, cookie policy and terms and conditions are written in plain language for the same reason.
