These terms cover surveys, quotes and installation or replacement work carried out by Skylark Skylights (Derby), and your use of this website. They are a starting point written for consumers in England and Wales. The written quote for your job may add or vary terms, and where it does, the quote applies to that job. About us
Who we are and how to reach us
Skylark Skylights (Derby) installs and replaces a range of skylights and rooflights, from roof windows and lanterns to sun tunnels and walk-on units, in Derby and about 30 road miles around it. The legal name of the trading entity is [to be confirmed], and the company or registration number is [to be confirmed].
We have no public premises and no address for visits. Write to info@skylarkskylightsderby.co.uk, WhatsApp 07880 284133, or use the survey form on this site.
Survey and quote
From survey to agreed price
The survey is free. Before any price is given, we see the room, the place you want lit and the roof. You are under no obligation to go ahead.
After the survey we send a written quote. Once you accept it, the price is fixed and holds when fitting day arrives. The quote states the work included, the products to be fitted and how long it stays open for acceptance, which is [to be confirmed]. If you ask us to change the work after accepting, we confirm in writing what changes and what that does to the price before we carry on.
How a job moves along

Room, spot and roof are seen and measured.

You receive a fixed price in writing, with the work described.
Acceptance
You accept in writing and we agree dates.

We fit the unit, deal with the finish and handle notifications.

Paying
Payment
Payment terms, including any deposit and when the balance is due, are set out in your written quote and are [to be confirmed] for each job. We ask for payment by the method stated on the quote. If a payment is late, we may contact you to agree a date, and we may pause work that has not yet started until the matter is settled.
Materials ordered specially for your job, such as made-to-size units, may be non-returnable once ordered. We tell you if this applies before you accept.
Your rights
Cancelling and changing your mind
If you agree a contract away from our premises, which includes at your home, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 usually give you a right to cancel within 14 days of the contract being made. We give you the details with your quote. If you ask us to start within that period, you may have to pay for work already carried out. If a unit is made to your measurements, the right to cancel may not apply once the order is placed.
You can find a summary of your consumer rights on GOV.UK. Nothing in these terms limits your legal rights as a consumer.
On site
Access, regulations and the roof
We need safe access to the room, the loft or roof space where relevant, and to the roof itself. You agree to tell us about anything that affects the job, such as known roof defects, asbestos, or services in the area.
If the job is notifiable, we deal with the Building Control notification and fit to the current rules. Planning matters are your responsibility as owner unless we agree otherwise in writing, and our planning guide explains the basics. If the survey or the work uncovers a problem that changes the job, such as rotten timbers that cannot be left in place, we stop, explain, and agree any change in writing first.
After the work
Our guarantee and your legal rights
Our work carries a 10-year workmanship guarantee, given in writing. It covers the quality of our installation. Manufacturers' own product guarantees apply to the products themselves and are passed to you with the paperwork. The full wording is on our guarantee page.
The guarantee does not reduce your statutory rights. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill, and goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If something goes wrong, tell us as soon as you can so we can arrange to look at it, and see our complaints procedure.
Limits
Liability and this website
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our failing to use reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
This website is provided for general information. We take care that it is accurate, but guides and answers are not a substitute for a survey of your own roof. Links to other websites are for convenience, and we are not responsible for their content. Our privacy policy and cookie policy explain how we handle your information.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, unless the law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
